The New Working Mentalist Forcing Bag

This bag is the ultimate in see-through forcing bags. Here the difference is the fact that it looks like something you would get from your kitchen. The bag is made of Zip-Loc 8 freezer bags and still has the Zip-Loc© name on the front. Included with the instructions is a new type of book test that lets you reveal a whole paragraph as the spectator is reading it to himself. For years it has been a staple in my show. Now with the war in the Balkans the bells are too expensive to buy for resale, however for the individual to buy one is not out of line. Therefore I am releasing the Manuscript only as there is no work to assembling the bell. There are no gimmicks to make or things to re-tool on the bell. All is self-working. All that is needed is a bell, a pencil, some thread and of course the manuscript. Speaking of "spirits"- even a wine glass will work for this wonderful piece.

The Mental Key

This prop is commonly called the "Haunted Key" and is available from other sources. Carlyle has taken the original key, aged it and wrote instructions for the way he uses his. This is not to say that the other versions are wrong, just different. To his mind, this work makes it a more believable effect in the eyes of the spectator. The key used is the most well balanced to be put on the market in his memory. Those that have given up trying to make the key turn and not flop over after the half way point will love this key. It enables you to do it in others hands where you might have failed before. The key points to remember are that you will have a much shorted time learning to control this key because of the way he teaches you to hold the prop and the patter lines that make it something your audiences will understand and believe. Carlyle’s Add-A-Number
(Also in the Carlyle Touch Book & Demonstrated on the Video)

Different from any other effect by the same name. Things to remember: No mention made of adding at the beginning, no funny looking pads; spectators see their numbers after the addition. No need to check with others to see if it was totaled correctly. Only after the addition is an envelope, held in the audience, reveled. One of the cleanest, most straightforward versions on the market today. Used by Carlyle for years in his show. Now for the first time released to the mentalist fraternity in its original version and in a new and improved version. A must in any great act. A real repetition builder. May be used as a part of other effects.

The Guessing Game

In an effort to supply effects that can be done out pocket or at a table, we offer this fooler. In effect what happens is that you start a discussion about what is guessing. Is it intuition? Is it really physic ability? Is it one of these if your guesses are right more than they are wrong? To test this you remove a small stack of your business cards from a pocket. Removing one you draw the five Zenor or ESP symbols on the blank back of one of the cards. You then deal out five more cards, printing side up, and state that one of each of the symbols you just drew are on the back of each card. You will lay them out in an order you know, but not in the order that is on the card on the table. As you point to the first symbol, the circle, your friend is to say which of the five cards has the circle on it's back. As he/she points to one you print that symbol one a blank space on the printed side, pickit up and continue until all are finished. Before picking up the last card you off your helper to look and see if in fact he has at least chosen the star. He does and it is. In fact when the other four are laid out he has chosen or guessed correctly on all five.
There are no difficult or hard moves and the cover is so great that a child could get away with it, so don't let that hold you back from trying this effect. Remember that six (6) of your business cards are left on the table for all that are watching to pickup and keep.

Crystal Compatibility

An Effect with a Gravity Lock

Yes an effect with a gravity lock. Let me tell you how the audience sees the effect and the 'why' of doing it. That is, how it will fit into your show. You will test the Compatibility of a married couple. The longer they have been married the better. On your table is a stemmed wine glass with six (6) keys inside. Also in the table is a Master Brand Lock. You ask for a couple that has been married some time and that you would like to test their compatibility with each other. You stand the lady some distance from the man who is now on your right. You dump all the keys into your hand and after looking at them, remove one. The man is asked to try all the remaining keys in the lock and drop the keys back into the glass as they are tried if they do not open the lock. They don't! You hand him the last key and it opens the lock. He is to look very carefully at the key and then drop it in with the others. You now place the lock around the stem of the glass and close it. He tries it and yes it is locked. You now walk to his lady and offer her the glass to choose one key. Is she really compatible with her husband? Let's see, She tries the key and it opens the lock. I guess they are compatible.

The lock I recommend is a # 21 as it is smaller and lighter than the #27 that fits most effects. It can be found on page 4 of this catalog. The effect does not come with a lock. It must be bought separately.

This is my life story. No there are no magic tricks or Mentalism effects! As I have lived my life I have come in contact with so many magicians that are now considered "Greats". To name by a few: Harry Blackstone Sr. & Jr., Dunninger, Paul La Paul, Dante, Percy Abbott, Neil Foster, Cardini, Bob Nelson, U. F. Grant, Charlie Miller, The Professor Dia Vernon, Will Rock, Ron Wilson, Milt & Bill Larson and the list goes on and on. Now in my 74th year I've been telling these stories and many said, " Ed you should put these in a book." And so I did. Stories like how I met the Lone Ranger. No not the TV actor, but the radio actors that made up the cast that for years made us kids tune in every night it was on and I knew him. WOW! There is also all that I can remember of my childhood, my teens, my road Ghost show, my time in the Air Force, my two marriages and my children and the loss of my youngest. How I taught so many to do magic and mentalism. How I got hired to do the Houdini Seance at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. My 30 years at 20th Century Fox Studio and the work on Star Wars. It's all there. And lastly my membership in the PEA and at the end how they gave me a Life Membership.
