Mystery
of the Blackboard
By Ted Annemann
This is an act in itself. It can be done
anywhere you can set up a blackboard or in today's venues, a dry-erase
board. The bigger the better so all can see it. This plays for any size
audience. It can be part of a larger show or as stated, stand alone. No
props except the board, a marker to write with, an eraser & a blindfold.
Effect; three helpers are asked to write a word of no less the 7 letters, a
3 digit number from the second and the third to draw a geometric design. All
this done while the mentalist has been lead to the farthest point on the
stage. The audience is asked to remember what the three helpers are thinking
of. They then erase all evidence of what was written. The board is clean. No
vestige of the writing is left. The mentalist is lead back to the board and
after concentrating he writes the same thee items the helpers did or very
close. A smash everywhere it has been used. It is used today by many of the
biggest mentalists working today. Yes today! Although written in the 30's,
it is as workable today as it was than, even more so. A one-person act you
can do!

Beyond
the Eyes of Dr. Reese
by Ray Carlyle from an Idea by Bob Nelson

This is for use by a reader in a
one-on-one situation. This is a very
old method that has not been used for over thirty years. However
don’t let that fool you as it has been updated to make it better than
it ever was, with the new handling, it covers the awkward moments
of the original version. Simply, a sitter writes a question on a
slip that is placed into a drinking glass, covered with a hanky, which
is held in place by rubber band. You and the sitter concentrate
and you answer the questions. After the sitter has received the answer to
the question she/he may remove the rubber band and hanky from the glass and
dump out the question still in tact for you to autograph.
A New version by John Riggs and Ray
Carlyle has been written and is now included with this effect. The new glass
is now also included. This glass is a bottomless glass with a cap or plug as
it used to be called, from Germany. It will hold a liquid such as Coke,
Beer, or water and may be drank from with no fear that the bottom cap will
come off until you want it to be removed.

Second Sight Act
By U. F. Grant with update by Ray Carlyle
(Also available in The Carlyle Touch Book)
This, as the mentalist tells his
audience, is a second sight act. But,
my friends, without codes, hand signs or electronics. Yet as he
passes through the audience he will say only "concentrate". The medium
on
stage will described articles such as dates on coins, serial
numbers on bills, describe people, their names, phone numbers,
names of cards. And for a grand climax, members of the audience will
simply hold up their fingers for numbers, which the mentalist
will put on a large board on stage, until there are three rows of five
digits each. The medium will call out Write down the sum total which
will be correct. Remember the medium on stage,
has been blindfolded for the entire time,
has not seen anything either in the audience or on stage. Yes the
blindfold is real and yes she cannot see anything. Remember, no
codes of any kind and no electronics. It can be mastered in a very
short time. This type of effect is right for any type audience.
Will works extremely well for large audiences. Don’t let the low
price fool you. Used by some of the most successful mentalists
working.

-HEADLINE HUNTER -THOUGHT
by Ray Carlyle from ideas by Bob Nelson & Fogel
As the title shows, this is an effect
that is drawn from two of the
best
minds of the past and made ready for the audiences of today. It
is an effect that can make a reputation for you as a real performer
worth the high price you demand. As seen, you have a double page
taken from any newspaper chosen from many you have on stage. They
are real and not gaffed in any way. A helper decides which paper, what
double page and when it is torn in half, which half to keep and
which to throw away. This done may times until you have just a small
bit of the page left. Remember they say and you throw away. The
choice is theirs. The prediction may be reveled in any of several
ways given. In a bonus insert a method of not touching the paper at all
is given and a method for finding the prediction in a mailed
letter ala my Headline Prediction offered elsewhere in this
catalog.

Annemann
Revisited
This is one of the effects that made
Ted Annemann the legend that he
still is today. The thinking that went into the very effective
card divination is beyond most effects and yet is simple as there are
no slights. In fact, once you hand the deck to the first
spectator
you never touch the deck again until the effect is over. Yes it
all happens in the spectator’s hands. You will want to read this
description more than once. Here’s what happens, the cards are
removed from their case and handed to helper number one. He shuffles
the cards and fans them in the time-honored fasion of "pick a
card" to helper number two who takes any card he wishes. He looks
at and remembers its identity. Helper number one closes the deck and is
told to hand the cards to helper number three. He is told to
shuffle the deck and he also is instructed to fan the cards as
number one had. The helper with the card is told to insert the card
anywhere he wishes in the fanned deck. The cards closed and once
again shuffled. Now helper three is ask to deal the cards one at a time
into a pile in front of him. As he does, you place you hand over,
but not touching, the dealt card. This goes on until you say "Stop!".
At that point you ask the helper number two who chose the card to
name the card and helper three turns over the stopped at card and
it is the card named. In the revisited version you may name the
card before it is turned over. Things to remember, you never
touch the cards and they are shuffled twice by two of the
helpers. No stacked deck and if you wish you can dawn a blindfold
before the final dealing by helper three. No stooges are used.
Can be done any where at any time. No reset. Ready when you
are.

Keep It Dark
By Punx
This is an very easy playing card code for two people by the
Master Mentalist, Punx. Before his untimely death he gave me the effect to
market. In the effect any card, even a Joker, may be selected by the spectator
and you can let your partner know in statements that are so natural as to never
tip the method. Words such as " Are you ready?" will tell the partner the suit. The code comes on a sheet
of paper in the instructions, the size of a playing card and may be printed and glued to the face of a Joker
or on of the extra "ad" cards that come with most new decks. If two crib sheets are made both may have
one to use until the code is learned by both. That should not take more that a few
hours, but for those that take longer to remember things or just as a safety
item, its there. Easy to learn, ready any time and done with any deck or
without a deck by just having a card agreed upon by the spectator or audience.
Remember that your partner may leave the room while the card is being selected
as you code it as it's being revealed. So simple yet so direct. Worth much more
that the price as a reputation builder.

Hair Pin Turn
by Carlyle
Here is a nice little stunt that is fun at parties and anywhere
some gather, even at the office. You state that since you have been involve in
the Psychic Entertainment field you have been asked to test people and keep a
record. You state that you use the most advanced interments to do the testing.
From you wallet you remove a ladies hair pin, not the so called Bobby Pin but
the open kind. You ask for a ruler. If one is not available you then ask for a
stiff piece of cardboard. These are your advanced tools. Hopefully you will get
a ruler, but if not you will have to cut the cardboard to size and then mark it
off as if it were a ruler. (Or carry one in your inside coat pocket) This is even more of a laugh at your wonderful
scientific tools. With a spectator acting as the test person, you spread the pin
open like an upside down "V" and lay it over the ruler that he is holding just
less than an inch from a clear, flat table. He is to "WILL" the pin to move
along the ruler. As he tries it does move and keeps moving. Suddenly it may stop
and turn around either not move or moves backwards. You stop the
proceedings and take the ruler and note how far it went. You ask his name and
enter the results in your "little back book". Most will laugh and then scratch
their heads as to what has just taken place.

Money In Balloon
By Carlyle
Here is an effect that plays big, but packs small as they
say. What the audience sees. A robe stretched between two points (could be two
spectators or any two points) from the rope are five (5) balloons of different
colors. Each is inflated and are about 12 inches in size. These balloons are
held by five bulldog clips. None of the above are gimmicked ( these are not my
Ostin Clips). Now a spectator is selected by any fare means as there is no
plants or stooges used. He or she is ask to find which balloon holds a one
hundred dollar bill folded up inside. Then you play a kind of "Bank Night"
or a "Deal or No Deal" routine to find the bill. The routine allows for you or
the 'helper' to win and at the end an envelope that was hanging high over the
stage is removed only to find a prediction that details all the actions that
happened in finding the bill.
No props are provided. Only a complete routine
giving you an ending with and without the production ending. The prop below is
only a suggestion. It may be done with an ending that does not require the
Abbott prop.
The only prop needed is a device for the prediction which can be bought from
Abbott's Magic company for $30, ( see the instructions for a picture and name )
